About

Eddie Watson, PhD, is originally from St. Albans, Hertfordshire in the UK, and moved to Texas for Graduate School in 2016. To say it was an interesting year to move between the UK and the US would be an understatement; controversial votes and transformational national politics seemed to follow him wherever he went. Since then, he has established a well-rounded academic career with numerous teaching positions, graduate research placements, research on modern Britain and pop culture, and an aptitude for popular history. His research primarily covers subculture and youth culture in the 20th century, combining social and cultural historical methods with ethnomusicology, sociology, and labor studies.
Completing his PhD in 2023, Eddie is proud to say that he is a Dr of Punk, writing his thesis on Punk, DIY music, and masculinities in northern England from the 1970s to the 1990s. Combining two of his favorite interests in history and music has been a lifelong dream. Outside of these interests, Eddie is an avid soccer fan, especially his beloved Arsenal and he currently holds a coveted Austin FC season ticket.
He is particularly interested in researching and teaching classes which cover:
  • Modern Britain and its Empire
  • Gender and Sexuality
  • Popular Music
  • Working-Class Leisure and De-industrialization
  • Western Civ Survey
  • US History Surveys
